In
2004
the Editorial Alpina
(which publishes most of the Spanish hiking maps) will start the work on
the Majorcan hiking maps
1: 25.000.
We will inform you here when the edition is ready and we will try to list
here the most important corrections (if they are any...)

The
Kompass
map
(1: 75.000) has
improved a lot since the first edition but it has still some mistakes and
should be used only together with a guidebook. It is also useful as a biking
map. Here are our corrections from the 2003 edition.

►Some
important trails are missing, such as: from
Cala
Fornells
to the
watchtower in
Cap
Andritxol (near
Peguera) /
from
Port
d´Andratx
to
Sant Elm /
from
Calvià
to
Son
Font and
to the
mountain
"Na Bauçà"
(near Galilea)
/ the
ascent from
Font
des Pí
to the pass
Coll des Carniceret
(mountain "Galatzó")
/ from
Estellencs
to
Puigpunyent /
from
Banyalbufar
to
Estellencs /
from
Banyalbufar
to
Esporles /
from
Mirant de Mar
to
Port des Canonge
.
►In
our opinion, several difficult and lost trails are marked on the map as
"hiking trails": the lost trail from
S´Estaca
to
Sa Foradada (near
Port de Valldemossa) /
from the top of
"Puig
des Teix"
to
sa Galera
and to the
"Coma de sa Palla" /
from the Cúber
dam to the top of
"Sa Rateta" /
the southern
route to the top of Massanella
(from
the Coll de
Ses Bassetes) /
the lost trail
to the watchtower
"Torre de Lluc" (near
the monastery of Lluc).
►Several
trails which appear on the map don´t exist: one trail from the west of
Muleta to
Cap Gros (near
Port
de Sóller) /
the trail from
the west to
"Puig S´Aucadena" (near
Alaró) /
from
Deià to
Ca´l Abat /
from
"Puig des Teix"
to
"Puig Rei Jaume".

The "hiking" map
Freytag & Berndt (1:50.000)
only covers the central part of
the Serra de Tramuntana. The map has several mistakes and should be used
only together with a guidebook.
