►In spring and autumm, we hike through this difficult and beautiful canyon every two weeks. We will inform you here if there is any water in the normally dry riverbed. We would also request you to inform us, if you do the hike. Please, contact us:
► Since June 2006, there have been information points in Escorca (open from 7 to 13) and in Sa Calobra (open from 11 to 19). They should be open from May to October and give hikers information about the canyon (Tel. 971 517 100- English spoken). +++ It rained a lot from the 9. to the 11 th. of may. It will be, at least, two weeks with much water +++
►During the summer of 2004, the first climbing passage on the ascent was made safe. It was quite difficult to cross since the beginning of may when the rains removed a couple of blocks.
►Experienced and fit hikers with walking boots will enjoy this difficult and , in several places, dangerous hike through the canyon. You may need a rope (there are some left in the difficult passages, but bring your own). If you are experienced you don“t need the rope, but always check for the best passage. (cairns or colour spots) ►The best season is from May to September, but even then you may have to swim after a heavy rainfall. In winter the canyon could be dry after 2 weeks without rain. ►It is more convenient to walk uphill from Sa Calobra to Escorca. The climbing passages are easier on the ascent and you will realise earlier (2 minutes from the mouth, Sa Calobra) wether the riverbed is dry. Sometimes the water is only 20 to 40 cm deep, in this case you could take off your boots in several passages at the beginning and, after that, the rest of the riverbed is usually dry. You can reach Sa Calobra from Port de Sóller by boat (every day at around 10 am, only if the sea is calm-Barcas Tramontana, Tel. 971 633109, 971 6320619). ► ►If you walk down from Escorca and park your car there, you can catch a public bus in Sa Calobra to take you back to Escorca (from April to September, it leaves Sa Calobra at 3 pm. The phone numbers of the bus company are: ►We could help organise this hike: Mallorcan hiking guides. ►Be careful: in 2001 there were 8 mountain rescues (people lost, accidents) in the Torrent de Pareis!. In October 2003 one german was lost (he found the way by himself after the rescue service was alerted) and one week later one British hiker was found exhausted at 4 am by the rescue team. On the 7 and on the 8 of May 2004 there was much water on the Torrent and 2 small german groups had to be rescued: they couldn“t either descend or go back.
►The Torrent de Pareis was protected in 2003 as a "Monument Natural" (Natural monument) : the interesting fauna and flora have to do with the isolated and unspoilt landscapes and with the microclimate (little sun, much humidity).
